Other Pain Resources

We've shared lots of information on needle pain and pain management on this site. Here are some other online pain resources that offer pain information, research, and pain management alternatives.

Pain relief has become a major focus of medical professionals and children's hospitals in recent years. From extremely painful procedures (lumbar punctures, spinal taps, biopsy pain, and bone marrow aspirates) to minor procedures (immunizations, injections, and IV starts,) needle pain has an impact on adult and child health care. These sites are excellent resources for pain control. Use these links to jump to the resource section you're interested in:

Sites on Pain:

Pediatric Pain Sourcebook
This is a wonderful pain information web site, presenting everything from "prepare your adolescent for..." parent guides to health care protocols for pain relief. The best thing is that all the resources are downloadable for FREE, and are peer reviewed: Both the science and the content are discussed by an unbiased source before they present the materials. We recommend this article: "Pain, Pain, Go Away: Making cancer less painful."

manageIVpain.com is the very attractive web site of Anesiva, which manufactures "Zingo", a single use lidocaine product designed for IV stick pain. Comfort Tips, particularly the language section. We recommend this editorial by and for nurses about the importance of needle pain. There's not as much practical meat that's appropriate for parents on this site. They recommend cheerful décor, but that isn't a variable you can change at your doctor's office.

Mayday Pain Project
The Mayday Pain Project provides easy to read information about pain issues such as chronic pain, arthritis, headache, cancer and other conditions causing pain for use by patients, caregivers and medical professionals.
